Manoogian Mansion is a stately mansion situated on a 2-acre estate in the Brush Park neighborhood of Detroit. It was built in 1928 for wealthy businessman Alex Manoogian and his wife Marie Manoogian. The mansion is a three-story Tudor revival-style house that has 24,000 square feet of living space.
In 1966, the Manoogian family donated the mansion to the city of Detroit to serve as the residence of the mayor. Since then, it has been the official residence of the mayors of Detroit. The mansion features luxurious living spaces, a grand ballroom, a library, and a formal dining room. The property also includes a carriage house, a pool, a tennis court, and a beautiful garden.
Over the years, many notable events and visitors have taken place at the Manoogian Mansion, including presidential visits, state dinners, and charity events. However, the mansion has also been the center of controversy and scandal. In 2002, the mansion became the subject of an investigation due to allegations of improprieties involving Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. The investigation resulted in his resignation in 2008 and a subsequent prison sentence.
